Dear Friends and Whitespace Innovations’ Family,
The victory was decisive!
In the Old Testament book 1 Samuel, Chapter 7, we learn about Samuel’s placement of a stone as a remembrance of Israel’s supernatural victory against the Philistines. Samuel named that stone “Ebenezer,” saying, ‘Thus far the LORD has helped us’” (verse 12). Ebenezer means “stone of help.” Our 2019 victory at Whitespace Innovations was also decisive, and we’ve placed our own “Ebenezer Stone” to remember this year. Thank you for your place in the success of our thriving business!
This sixth consecutive Christmas letter from Whitespace Innovations is written to acknowledge that our many blessings are the result of God’s direction, strength, and wisdom. The strong performance of our team, our business growth and profitability, and the congealing of a common vision for the future of our company, have all been a direct result of God’s grace as we fervently sought His direction in 2019. A stressful first quarter dealing with the federal government shutdown quickly became a decisive “comeback victory” and the most profitable year of our 5-year history. Our employees and customers were all part of this “comeback,” and we acknowledge here that God’s providential hand was the most important element in a decisive and profitable turnaround.
Winston Churchill gave a speech early in the British battle against Nazi Germany, saying “Never give in. Never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in, except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.” A copy of that speech greets our employees on their arrival at Whitespace Innovations. We proclaim that wisdom daily, even in the face of overwhelming business challenges. We are blessed with an amazing team of tenacious, motivated employees who never give in.
Our most profitable year ever was matched by other remarkable accomplishments. We grew 50% in our employee base, from 120 to 172 full- and part-time employees located in twelve states. Our customer base grew from 70 to 103 clients, nearly 50% over the prior year. We won our first federal prime contract, supporting the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) on the “Human Capital and Training Solutions” (HCaTS) contract. As the lead contract for all ‘human capital’ work in the government, HCaTS complements our Organizational Performance line of business that launched this year. On a path to a Top-Secret facility clearance and a new integrated financial system, Whitespace Innovations is now a fully qualified federal prime contractor and subcontractor. What a year!
Each year I write to remind you that Whitespace was founded with three goals in mind. Foremost, we are here to solve tough business, technical, and organizational problems for our customers. When customers succeed, we succeed. Second, we are in business to help people find work, and we do that through a singular focus on our clients’ growth of profitable businesses and healthy organizations. When companies thrive, their employees gain a livelihood as well as a purpose. As Bob Buford once stated, “Our fruit grows on your tree.” Our fruit at Whitespace grows on many trees. Third, we seek to achieve a life-work balance that enables our employees—and our customers—to pursue lives where work is meaningful and noble while achieving family, personal, and spiritual growth.
What are your goals for 2020? Do you see God’s hand in your successes? Take time today to thank Him for this past year and to ask where He needs you in the year to come. God has a plan for you!
